I have enjoyed reading many issues of EV Mag so it is an honor to have been featured in this issue. Unfortunately EV Mag is no longer published.Bird Landing
One cold overcast day I noticed some Pelicans near the shore of Lake O’ the Pines in East Texas. I tried several times to sneak up but they just flew off. So I sat there shivering for what seemed like hours until they started coming back. This one made my day by coming straight in for a landing.
Eagle
There is a nature center at Reelfoot Lake, TN that cares for injured wildlife. One of the staff saw me trying to photograph this Golden Eagle through the fence and must have felt sorry for me. He asked if I wanted to go into the enclosure. Who would say no to that? Normally I would have used f/5.6 but in this case the fence is a reminder that this magnificent bird was being cared for.
Gunners
I rarely photograph people. At this air show North of Fort Worth, TX I waited patiently for a shot of this B25 Mitchell without people in the way. It wasn’t until processing the image that I noticed the children inside. It is obvious they are having fun, which makes this image special.

Snow is rare in East Texas. I had noticed this abandoned house a few days earlier and decided to take advantage of it. It looked as if they left for work one day and never came back. Abandoned structures are very intriguing to me. I chose to bracket six shots at one-stop intervals with Magic Lantern. HDR was done with a Photomatix’s Merge to 32-bit HDR plugin for Lightroom.
The Path to Enlightenment
The path to enlightenment is marked by rusting license plates! This has to be my favorite location to kayak. This is a path from the boat ramp to the main area of Carters Lake near Uncertain TX. Without the license plates marking the path many would get lost. Shot from a kayak.
Long Exposure of Trees
My wife and I had scouted for locations around Reelfoot Lake, TN all day and hadn’t found what I was looking for. We made it back to our hotel just as sunset was fading. I looked across the street and said “Now that is what I was looking for!” There was just enough light to shoot a few five shot brackets at one-stop intervals with Magic Lantern. HDR was done with a Photomatix’s Merge to 32-bit HDR plugin for Lightroom.
